Boost your Wi-Fi across your whole home!

I was having issues with performance on Citrix and within Zoom.  Sometimes things would be slow, Zooms would freeze up or the audio would drop off.   In Citrix, sometimes things would freeze up for a few seconds.  I checked with others and they were not experiencing the same problem.   Even though browsing on the Internet was fine and the speed tests reported good numbers, it appeared that the Wi-Fi was the culprit so I looked for a solution that would work for the entire house.

Linsys Velop Whole Home Wi-Fi system

I found the Linsys Velop Whole Home Wi-Fi system which is a base station and a series of meshed repeaters.   By meshed, I mean that the same Wi-Fi is extended throughout the house with the repeaters and you can add additional repeaters as needed to extend the Wi-Fi to any distance.   The one I ordered was the AC4800 model pictured below:

This provides a base station and two repeaters.   My Bell Internet comes in at the basement furthest away from where I work so I could extend the Internet by using the repeaters.  I connected the base station to the Bell modem and the repeaters are strategically placed in outlets around the house.  The base station requires an Internet connection (wired) but the repeaters are completely wireless.

When setting this up an application called Linksys is downloaded to your phone.   Using that application, it walks you through the complete connection process.   When installing the repeaters, the app lets you know if there is a good signal between them.  The app makes it really easy to set this up.  Limited technical skills are needed.

Check setup through speed test

When done, you can run a speed test from within the app and it will provide all the details on your set up as well as allowing you to change the set up as needed, right from the app:

Subsequent to this testing we also had a client who has three separate buildings located close to each other.   Two of the buildings were connected and wired by the third building and was across a parking lot and not wired.   It needed Wi-Fi.   We used the same device to provide Wi-Fi to the third building and it is working really well.

We would recommend this product based on the range of coverage, ease of set up, app flexibility and performance.  If you need better internet in you home, cottage or apartment, consider the Linksys Velop system.
