In late 2017, Google announced that it would be discontinuing its Google Drive and Photos Apps for both Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac. Support for these apps has already ended as of December 11th, 2017, and they will no longer function as of the cut-off date of March 12th, 2018. Don’t panic! They are being replaced and there is still time to migrate!
What is Google’s Drive and Photos being replaced with?
The Cloud side of the storage will still be intact, but the apps will be replaced with Google’s new free Utility “Backup & Sync”, which allows you to back up your entire computer or just selected folders. Google’s “Backup and Sync” has been available for download since July 2017.

For those businesses using Google’s G suite productivity tools for employees, Google will also have its new desktop application tool named “Drive File Stream” which allows quick access to Google Drive files on demand without using up hard drive space or the need for syncing files.
What does Triella Recommend for Businesses?
Although Google Drive and Backup and Sync may be ideal solutions for personal consumer end computer users, Triella recommends more suitable Cloud and Backup solutions for business environments such as Citrix ShareFile or Private Cloud for file storage and Datto for business grade backup and business continuity.
