Troubleshooting Wi-Fi issues

It can be very frustrating when your Wi-Fi network does not work as expected, especially when your business requires a fast, secure and reliable internet connection. Interruptions to Wi-Fi connection while working can hinder your work performance and make you lose precious time. During the course of this pandemic, Wi-Fi has become critical for business and for entertainment purposes. There are a variety of reasons which can cause your Wi-Fi connection to be slow and intermittent. Here are some tips and tricks to help you when experiencing Wi-Fi connectivity issues:

Tip#1: Have the modem close to the point of use

Make sure that your router or modem is not in a closed space like garage or in the basement. The best location would be the central part of your house like the living room or even your home office if you primarily use it for work purpose. The closer you are to the modem, the stronger the connection will be.

If the modem must be in the basement or far away, try using a NetExtender for your Wi-Fi.  Get a model with a rating of 1750 for best results.   Plug it in where there is a strong signal from the existing Wi-Fi and it will extend that signal to your location.

Tip#2: Maximize the available bandwiidth

Bandwidth also plays a great role when it comes to fast internet speed. Make sure you have enough bandwidth for your internet. If you have multiple devices to use at home then it requires more bandwidth. The amount of data transferred will increase with the number of people using it. When you have more than one person using internet at home i.e. someone is watching HD videos on Netflix or on YouTube, playing video games, using skype calls etc. this consumes higher amounts of bandwidth and could result in slow internet speed on one or more of your devices. Having more bandwidth will save you from this headache.

Tip#3: Restart the modem periodically

Make sure that you reboot your modem in a timely manner to get stable connection. Sometimes not restarting your modem could be one of the strongest factors which results in slow and intermittent internet connection. Tip#4: Install a Wi-Fi Extender

Consider using a Wi-Fi Extender to boost the signal strength. If your modem is away from the place where you work at home, installing an extender could be a great help to minimize the signal issues. It’s cost effective as well.
